5 Ways to Get the Most From Your Training Sessions
I always want clients to get the most out of their sessions with me. When we only have 60 minutes to go over diet, supplements, sleep, and the training program, I want to make the best use of every minute of your session.
Here are some simple steps that can help you get the most bang for your buck.
1. Get there early and set up your first group of exercises. Once you have been through all the routines with me, you should know which one you are going to do that day and can set up the first stations we will use. If we’ve been training together awhile you can start warming up your first movements. This simple step helps us gain up to 10 extra minutes of time together.
2. Bring a note card of questions. During the week when you think of questions you want to ask me, write them down. If you’ve done this before, you’ll know this is one of my favorite things. I love to teach, and I love it even more when I get to go over stuff I know you have been working on. If you have been reading up on topics we’ve covered or want to know why I do things a certain way, I can tell you’re committed and eager to learn, and nothing fires up a teacher like a passionate student.
3. Take pictures and notes. We cover a lot of info during the session and most of the time the hardest thing to remember is how to set up your new exercises. You may not remember which machine or which handle we used, but use that fancy iphone to snap a picture and you won’t waste time trying to figure it out. If you’re phone isn’t handy, sketch a picture or make a note.
4. Be consistent. When we do your measurements and change diet or workouts or supplements, the point is to find which factors are most relevant. When you miss workouts or fail to plan your meals and have to compromise, it just delays figuring out how you will respond to the program we’ve set out. Life is going to screw up your plans to get fit, but often we’ve worked out strategies for getting through those times. Accept that inconvenience will often be a part of your journey towards health, but you can stay consistent with careful planning and commitment.
5. Bring your A game. I expect you to give me your all during each session, but I cannot make you work hard. Coming to a session isn’t like going to the bakery to pick up your cake. I don’t do the work for you. When you show up, plan on getting dirty and making the best cake you can. I love nothing more than when a client lays down a challenge or scoffs at the workout and pushes back. If you come with the expectation to get ruined, I will deliver. I’ve had a few clients even lay down the challenge the night before via text. They may regret it for the next four days, but they got an awesome workout!
I want you to get the most out of your workout time with me. I have adapted most of these ideas from my most successful clients. If you put them all into practice we can make our time together even more valuable.
