Grocery Shopping – Part 1
We often get questions about where to find certain items or what items we purchase when grocery shopping. I thought it would be fun to highlight some shopping trips at various stores around town. Meijer is the store I shop at the most so I’m starting there. Remember not all stores carry the exact same thing. What you see at one store may not be at another. I generally start in the back of the store, hit a few aisles and end up in the meat and produce section for the majority of my shopping.
The No Fuss Salmon Cakes from our Whole30 are one of my favorites so I pick up Wild Planet canned salmon. In the juice aisle I like the Santa Cruz Pure Lime Juice for marinades and to add to my water. Frontera Salsa is super flavorful and a staple at my house.
G Hughes BBQ sauce is one of my latest finds- just 2 carbs and very good flavor. 4th & Heart grass-fed ghee comes in a few different varieties and definitely worth a try. The Egg Free 5-Ingredient Breakfast Hash calls for “Mina Shakshuka” sauce. I found it in the Mediterranean section. It is hearty with amazing flavor. Sir Kensington’s Mayonnaise is made with real ingredients and healthy oils. Coconut milk should be in everyone’s pantry.
Having emergency protein on hand is a must. I found EPIC bars, Lorissa’s Kitchen Grass-fed jerky and Rx Bars. Stash these in your office drawer, purse, brief case, or car console.
In the frozen food section I picked up Applegate Chicken Sausage to have with eggs or with a veggie for a quick meal. Canyon Bakehouse gluten free bread is excellent if you haven’t tried it yet. . Riced cauliflower tastes just like rice to me- crazy. The So Delicious CocoWhip is a dairy free option if you need a dessert. Just a small scoop on berries is definitely a treat.
Need a pick me up for your coffee? Organic Heavy Whipping cream with a little vanilla extract and cinnamon might do the trick. No need to whip it just pour a tablespoon or so into your coffee. Kerrygold grass-fed butter is a must and now available in sticks!
In a pinch for time? We often talk about having the ingredients for three meals on hand. The al fresco chicken sausage and Farm to Family Turkey sausage are great options. You will also find PRE grass-fed beef, wild caught shrimp, and many wild caught seafood options.
The produce section is probably where I spend most of my time. Organic cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, and mushrooms are usually in my cart. There are also many “prepped” veggies to choose from which can be a definite time saver.
It seems like every time I shop there are more and more healthy whole food options available!
